I am a frugal mom of 8 kids with a big Christmas shopping list. So am I going Black Friday Shopping? Or am I going to rush out right after the Thanksgiving dinner to start an aggressive evening of competitive shopping? NO! Black Friday Shopping is so 3 years ago!
I spent the last 3 years working for a big national frugal blog where we worked 10-20 hours a day almost all November covering all the sales. I got a chance to look at every sale in stores and on line. Black Friday was a crazy 3 day adventure where we tried to tell our readers about all of the amazing sales.
So did I rush out and buy all of the things we posted? NO. Are you ready for the big secret? Retailers have ruined Black Friday Shopping! There are so many Pre-Black Friday sales and Black Friday Week sales that Black Friday has been almost completely diluted.
There are so few really amazing sales in the stores on Black Friday and Thursday and the supply is so limited that you have to be really ready to work, be aggressive and sacrifice to get them.
How do I get the best deals without going to the stores on Thanksgiving or Black Friday?
- Shop online – Almost all of the big deals that you can get in the store are available online. You don’t have to brave the crowds, and your chances of getting the deal are just as good.
- Cyber Monday! – Cyber Monday is almost a bigger deal than Black Friday these days and there are so many great deals on every type of thing. I love Cyber Monday because it does not interfere with my family time on Thanksgiving at all.
- Look for sales between Black Friday and Christmas – I saw so many sales in the last 2 years in December that were as good as or beat Black Friday sales. The stores are really drawing out those sales and there are very few deals that you won’t see again before Christmas.
I know some of you have a fun tradition of Black Friday shopping with friends or family and that’s great! But as someone who has studied Black Friday sales in depth for the last 3 years, I say, save your holiday and save your sanity and stay home on Thursday and Friday!
