Do your remember these magic cubes?  I got a Rubik’s cube when I was in high school and I was hopeless with it! I had no idea that they were still popular until my son began to be interested in them.  My son is very bright and he loves puzzles and brain teasers, so I bought him a Rubik’s cube to keep his mind busy for a while.

Can you solve these magic cubes

My son is amazing at solving these Magic Cubes!  He can solve the Megaminx Speed Cube in under 4 minutes!  When he first started playing with one, I had flashbacks of the Rubiks Cubes we played with as kids and how I messed it up the first day and never solved it again.  So of course, I expected my son to have that same experience.  I got him a Rubiks Cube like I had and he took about a day to solve it.  Then he solved it again in an hour and it got faster and faster.  So when he asked for the Megaminx Speed Cube I was curious to see how he would do.  He mastered that one quickly and he was doing different patterns within a couple of days.  How can my son be so good at something I am so bad at?

In this video he shows how to solve the Gear Cube which is one of his favorite magic cubes:

He has mastered all of his cubes.  Now he wants to get  faster speed cubes so he can improve on his 23 second time. (Seriously?)  I want to encourage this hobby but I was worried it would get expensive.  Luckily for both of us, most of the magic cubes he wants are less than $20.  Who knew there were so many different types?  Not me but I’m thinking for under $30 I can keep my son busy and unplugged for a couple of months!

These cubes are inexpensive and fun! If you have a child with an active mind who loves puzzles, I think they would love these magic cubes like my son does!

My son loves these magic cubes and here are some of his favorites:
