My daughters and I have a fun tradition. Anytime the boys go hunting or fishing, the girls and I have a “Girl’s Party”. This is a fun thing that we all love and a perfect example of turning a problem into a happy little tree. (See this post about how we try to turn our mistakes and challenges into happy little trees like Bob Ross.)
A few years ago, my husband and sons had a fishing trip planned. The boys wanted that time alone with dad, but my daughters felt left out. I wanted to find a way to make everyone happy, but I was not feeling well. This could have been a recipe for disaster, but I decided to make the time with me and my daughters special by having a party while the boys were gone. The party needed to be inexpensive, simple, and something I could do while I was resting, and of course, it had to be something we would all enjoy.
The party plan was simple, pizza, a great movie, and manicures. I ordered some inexpensive pizza from Dominos, and got out my favorite movie, Princess Bride. I had a lot of nail polish and manicure tools so I set those up so we could give each other manicures while we watched the movie.
I felt guilty that our girl’s party was so simple, but my daughter’s loved it! We had a blast. Of course they all loved the movie. (Seriously, it was crazy that they hadn’t seen Princess Bride before that!) The pizza was great, and we all had fun doing each other’s nails in bright colors and crazy patterns. When it was time to go to bed, the girl’s were asking when the boys were going away again so we could have another party.
After that it was a tradition. When the boys left to go hunting or fishing, the girls are happy to stay home and have a girl’s party with me. It’s always the same simple party: pizza, movie, and manicures. Actually, now that they are older, some of the girls go hunting and fishing too. But the ones that stay home with me have a girl’s party.
It is such an easy, fun, and inexpensive tradition but we all love it! My daughters and I are really able to talk while we give each other manicures and we laugh a lot! It’s a tradition that started as an problem, but now it’s such a happy little tree, I couldn’t change if I wanted to. And why would I? We can bond and be silly without spending a lot of money or trying to make things too complicated.
I have purchased several of these Manicure Tools to use on these special days and I always surprise them with a new fun manicure tool for each “girl’s party” to make it a little more exciting.
We love these Manicure Tools for our girl’s party, and here are some of our favorites:
